Mission Bay is one of Auckland’s favourite beachside destinations. The golden beach is safe for swimming year-round, and is nestled right next to The Promendade – Auckland’s only strip of beachside dining, drinking, and shopping outlets.
Over the years, Mission Bay has become a popular tourist attraction and a regular feature of the locals’ lifestyle. With stunning views, fresh sea-salt air, and a friendly beach-side culture; it’s a real slice of paradise.
At the centre of Mission Bay’s grass-strewn beachfront sits our unmistakable landmark, the Fountain. The Mission Bay Fountain was given to the citizens of Auckland in 1950 by Mr and Mrs E.R Davis in memory of their son, Trevor. This magnificent art-deco fountain 'plays' regularly sending dancing jets of water as high as 12m in the air and often features a spectacular lightshow at night.
The area is also rich with other landmarks and features of interest including the Melanesian Mission House, the Walsh brothers sculpture, and Kelly Tarltons Aquarium. The magic of Mission Bay is in the detail, so come and visit us and discover it for yourself. Need some inspiration? Check out some of our Things to Do!
